Thanks for the post, Vernon Lowe

Ah, to be young again. Remember the days of snowball fights and six foot creations that looked nothing like snowmen? Remember how exciting it was to get a day off school, and how disappointed you were every time your mother called you in to change clothes and force hot chocolate down your throat?

Well, the tables have turned. The time has come for you to be that no-fun mom. Don’t worry, it’s for their own good. They’ll understand… some day.

First, while it’s unavoidable that they’ll get cold and wet, make sure they don’t *stay* cold and wet. Periodically change them out of soaked clothes, and briskly rub down frozen arms and legs to maintain circulation. Dump them in a warm bath if they get too frozen. Make them eat something warm, and keep them hydrated with something *other* than snow.

Keep an eye on them as they play outside. Don’t allow them to build snow tunnels or anything else that could potentially collapse and cause them injury. Steer them away from dangerous places with icicles and other projectiles. And absolutely no homemade sleds down busy streets!

If you decide to join them outside – or for any activity away from home – make sure you set your securitychoice home security alarm before you go. You can never be too safe, especially after the holidays.
